More about the book

Dumfries and Galloway is often considered Scotland's forgotten southwest corner but nonetheless attracts visitors from near and far for its mix of hillwalking, stunning coastline and rural way of life. Popular with history and outdoor enthusiasts, it has particular relevance to US travelers thanks to a poignant mix of events that have taken place here, ranging from the birth of John Paul Jones, the ‘Father of the American Navy, in 1747 to the tragic bombing of Pan-Am flight 103 in December 1988, to which there are several moving memorials and a garden of remembrance. Access from the US is easy with direct flights into Glasgow just a couple of hours to the north.
