More about the book

This last volume in the famous "Barsetshire" series was considered by Trollope as the best novel he had written, and many readers agree with him. The story considers the trial and tribulations of the Reverend Josiah Crawley, the curate of Hogglestock, who is unjustly accused of having stolen twenty pounds. Since he cannot satisfactorily explain how he came by the money, he is forced to give up is incumbency. Meanwhile, his daughter, Grace, has fallen in love with Major Grantly, son of the Archdeacon, who is outraged by their engagement. Suspense and crises mount, but the mystery is finally untangled and the Reverend Crawley's innocence is proved. Mrs. Proudie, his chief persecutor, meets her just desserts, Archdeacon Grantly discovers he is human, and the lovers are gloriously united.
