More about the book
Dr. Paulina Nicko-Stępień holds a PhD in literary studies from the University of Wrocław and a PhD in biblical theology from the Papal Faculty of Theology in Wrocław. She is a biblical scholar and classical philologist with a focus on the ancient Near East, having graduated from the Institute of Classical, Mediterranean, and Oriental Studies at UWr and PWT in Wrocław. She authored a book on the Mesopotamian underworld and its influence on the biblical concept of Sheol, along with several scholarly articles. A member of the Polish Biblical Scholars Association, her research interests include 16th-century Polish biblical translations (notably by Jakub Wujek), concepts of the afterlife in ancient Mesopotamia, and the impact of ancient Near Eastern cultures on biblical tradition. Her work is commendable for its methodological and substantive rigor. Notably, she meticulously traced the editions referenced by Wujek in his introduction to the 1593 New Testament translation, revealing the actual methodology he employed with source commentaries and how he utilized them. Nicko-Stępień's research represents a significant advancement in contemporary studies of the life and work of Fr. Jakub Wujek, as noted in a review by Fr. Prof. Dr. Hab. Zdzisław Lec from the University of Szczecin.
