Wilfred Owen was born on March 18, 1893, in Oswestry, Shropshire. He volunteered for war and became an officer but suffered a severe shock in April 1917 during a shell attack in France, leading to his hospitalization in Craiglockhart. Owen died at 25, shortly before the end of World War I, and is recognized as a significant anti-war poet.
