The narrative chronicles the Anglo-Saxon conquest and settlement of Britain in the 5th century, intertwined with significant historical events of the Dark Ages, such as the fall of the Roman Empire and the rise of Attila the Hun. Richly depicting Anglo-Saxon culture, it weaves in Celtic legends, including the Sword of Albion and Merlin's character. Central to the story is Hengest, who rises to power as Bretwalda of Angleland, only to face the resurgence of Britannia led by Aurelius Ambrosius, culminating in a setup for the legendary King Arthur.
