Established in 1998, the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) was created to promote regional cooperation among member states. It evolved into a recognized economic community by 2000 and gained observer status at the UN General Assembly. CEN-SAD has since formed partnerships with various organizations to enhance collaboration in political, cultural, economic, and social areas. A significant restructuring occurred in 2013, leading to the approval of a revised Treaty to revitalize the Community's objectives and operations.
