An influential conservationist and children's author, Thornton Waldo Burgess dedicated over 50 years to celebrating nature and its creatures through his writings. Known as the "Bedtime Story-Man," he produced more than 170 books and 15,000 stories for his newspaper column, Bedtime Stories. Raised in humble beginnings by his mother in Sandwich, he drew inspiration from his surroundings and family heritage, including a lineage that dates back to the early settlers of Sandwich in 1637. His work continues to inspire a love for nature in young readers.
