Frederick Schiller Faust, known primarily as Max Brand, was a prolific American author celebrated for his literary Westerns. Born in Seattle and raised in California, he worked as a cowhand before studying at the University of California, Berkeley, where he honed his writing skills. In the 1910s, he began selling stories to pulp magazines, and by the 1920s, he had gained recognition across various genres, transitioning from pulp to more prestigious publications. Faust's diverse pen names reflect his extensive contributions to early 20th-century literature.
