Raised by Gaspard Roussillon, the unofficial mayor of Vincennes, she grows up to be independent and curious about life. The narrative unfolds in a predominantly Francophone, Roman Catholic region inhabited by fur traders. Vincennes stands out with its established community, including a church and the enigmatic Father Beret, a French priest with a mysterious history.
