The author, Jessie Catherine Couvreur, known by her pseudonym Tasma, was an Australian novelist who gained recognition after moving to Europe. Her literary career began with the successful serial publication of her first novel in the Australian Journal, which later appeared in London. Tasma's experiences in Europe, including her lectures in French and her marriage to Belgian politician Auguste Couvreur, enriched her writing. She also contributed to the Nouvelle Revue and was honored by the French government for her achievements in education and literature.
