More about the book
Born into a literary family in Dublin, Joseph Thomas Sheridan Le Fanu developed a passion for writing early on, publishing his first story by 1838. His works often reflect themes of gothic horror, nostalgia for Ireland's dispossessed Catholic aristocracy, and psychological fear. After marrying Susanna Bennett, whose mental health struggles deeply affected him, he channeled his grief into his writing. Le Fanu became a prominent figure in 19th-century supernatural literature, known for novels like Wylder's Hand and In a Glass Darkly, before his death in 1873.
