The town's growth was further propelled by Joseph Knight and his sons in 1868, who established local businesses. The town was named after Maj. Gen. Edward R.S. Canby, a Civil and Indian War hero, by his friend Ben Holladay. Canby was officially incorporated on February 15, 1893, becoming the second-oldest city in Clackamas County, showcasing its rich agricultural and military heritage.
