The author's fascination with Canada began in his youth, drawn by its natural beauty and the strength of its people. After immigrating in 1968 due to political unrest in Czechoslovakia, he pursued higher education in nuclear engineering and physics, ultimately earning a PhD. His career spanned prestigious institutions, including UCLA and CERN, where he contributed to significant advancements in particle physics. Settling back in Edmonton, he worked as a Detector Engineer/Physicist until his retirement in 2011, reflecting on his journey and the values that shaped his new homeland.
