More about the book
In 1892, Haida artists crafted a detailed model of their village, Skidegate, which was showcased at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. This unique project is the only documented North American aboriginal village created by its residents in the 19th century. Although many pieces were lost, some remain in Chicago's Field Museum. Through interviews with the Skidegate community and analysis of the model, Wright's research illuminates the village's cultural significance and contributes to Northwest Coast art history, serving as a vital resource for the Haida Nation.
