Barry Eric Odell Pain was an influential English journalist and humorist known for his parodic and lighthearted storytelling. Educated at Sedbergh School and Corpus Christi College, he made a name for himself as a prominent contributor to various publications, including The Granta and Punch. His career took off with the publication of "The Hundred Gates" in Cornhill Magazine. Pain's writing style drew comparisons to literary figures like Robert Louis Stevenson and De Maupassant, and he remained a regular contributor to the Windsor Magazine until his passing.
