A Dove in Free Flight

Set against the backdrop of post-9/11 tensions, this collection highlights the journey of translating Syrian poet Faraj Bayrakdar's work, originally smuggled from prison to raise awareness of his political imprisonment. The collaborative effort, inspired by Elias Khoury's seminar, culminated in the publication of "A Dove in Free Flight" in Beirut. This edition by UpSet Press includes an introduction by editors Ammiel Alcalay and Shareah Taleghani, a preface by Khoury, and an interview with Bayrakdar, reflecting on his harrowing thirteen-plus years in captivity.
