More about the book
Euripides, one of the foremost dramatists of ancient Greece, transformed the portrayal of mythical heroes by depicting them as relatable individuals facing extraordinary challenges. Born around 480 BC on Salamis Island, he initially trained for athletics before turning to drama. Competing in the City Dionysia, he won first prize only five times throughout his career, which coincided with the Athenian-Spartan conflict. Notably, his lyricism enhanced his plays, creating a musical cohesion. After falling out of favor, he retired to Macedon, where he was honored posthumously and buried with great respect.
