More about the book

Georges Darien (1862-1921) was a French writer with anarchist tendencies. His work, which includes novels, plays, and contributions to literary magazines, is marked by themes of revolt and disgust. After being forgotten following his death, he was rediscovered with the reissue of The Thief and Bas les Coeurs!. From 1891 to 1897, he traveled to Belgium, Germany, and particularly London, where he returned with the manuscript of his novel, The Thief. In addition to his novels, Darien was a prominent pamphleteer of the late century, collaborating with several anarchist journals, including L'Escarmouche, L'Ennemi du Peuple, and L'En Dehors. Other works include L'Épaulette: Souvenirs d'un Officier (1901), Biribi: Discipline Militaire (1906), and Les Vrais Sous-Offs (with Édouard Dubus).
