More about the book
The historical banking district of Berlin, once forgotten, is revitalized by the KfW Bankengruppe building at Gendarmenmarkt, restored to its former glory since 2000. Originally designed by architect Adolf Messel in 1897, the building has been carefully renovated, complemented by a new structure that completes the ensemble. Architecture critic Nikolaus Bernau explores the building's history and the significance of the banking district. The recent celebration of the KfW Bank's tenth anniversary coincided with the "Day of Open Monuments" event held at this site.
