Clara Louise Burnham was a prolific American novelist known for her impactful works, starting with her 1881 debut, No Gentlemen. She authored several notable novels throughout her career, including A Sane Lunatic and The Mistress of Beech Knoll. In addition to her fiction, she contributed lyrics to many successful cantatas by her father, George Frederick Root. Her novel Jewel inspired the 1923 film A Chapter in Her Life. Burnham's literary legacy reflects her significant contributions to American literature in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
