As a child, I often questioned my mother's warnings, like her admonition not to touch the red glowing area on the stove. Her response, "Because I said so," never satisfied my curiosity. One day, I touched it and learned the painful reason why. When I was six, my parents introduced me to fishing, which I loved. However, my mother strictly forbade me from going to the pond alone, explaining that I could slip and drown without an adult present. Despite my swimming lessons, I was frustrated by her insistence. A few days later, while my mother was out, I decided to disobey her. I convinced myself that fishing was safe since the pond was so close. Sneaking out, I walked on a plank to a wooden wharf. As I leaned over to cast my line, I slipped and fell into the deep water. Panic set in as I struggled to reach the wharf, but I couldn't grasp it. I sank beneath the surface, reaching for help but failing. The next thing I knew, I awoke in a hospital, cradled in my mother's arms, her tears on my face as she thanked God for my survival. In that moment, I understood the importance of obeying my parents; disobedience could lead to dire consequences. Knowing why we should follow rules is crucial for our safety and well-being.
