More about the book
The journey to establish depots in the South from February 10 to April 11, 1911, involved meticulous planning and execution in harsh conditions. Three depots were formed with a total of 3 tons of provisions, including seal meat. Navigational challenges were met by using flags to mark depot locations, while dog-sledging proved effective on the smooth upper barrier, allowing for impressive daily distances. Despite the extreme cold, with temperatures plummeting to -49°F, the team faced the journey with favorable weather and a well-organized approach.
