Beamer, a 13-year-old Californian, finds himself out of place in Middle America, living in an enigmatic house on a street that seems to defy existence. Teaming up with Ghoulie, a nerdy African-American boy, and Scilla, a tomboy, he navigates a world filled with bizarre challenges. Together, they confront various local threats, including bullies and peculiar denizens from dark castles and underground caves, all while utilizing a unique, spaceship-shaped tree house as their base of operations.
