The study examines governance practices in Jamaica's banking sector, particularly in light of increased bank failures over the past decade. It highlights the importance of early detection of troubled banks and the role of regulatory bodies in preventing failures. Utilizing both quantitative analysis of historical financial data and qualitative insights from focus groups and interviews, the research identifies eight critical areas needing reform, including prudential supervision and accounting practices, to enhance the safety and soundness of the banking industry.
