His mother, the Marchesa, disapproves of their union due to Ellena's status as a poor orphan and enlists Father Schedoni to thwart their romance. Vivaldi's pursuit is further complicated by mysterious encounters with a monk who warns him to stay away from Ellena. With the help of his friend Bonarmo and servant Paulo, Vivaldi attempts to confront the supernatural threat while navigating familial and societal pressures.
