Tracing their roots to late Roman reading practices, it reveals how these elements influenced modern features like font choice and punctuation. With 200 predominantly color photographs, the book illustrates the evolution of design from ancient to medieval texts. Additionally, it emphasizes the role of race and ethnicity in historiography, challenging traditional narratives about the development of this artistic style.
