More about the book
Focusing on the linguistic behaviors of Etch-English bilinguals, this study explores code mixing and code switching in educational and religious contexts. It identifies various types of code mixing and switching, analyzes their syntactic positions, and investigates the reasons behind these phenomena. Data was collected through observations in schools and churches, employing Hymes' theory of communicative competence and Halliday's systemic grammar for analysis. Findings reveal a tendency for more frequent code mixing in formal settings, while code switching to English is more prevalent in informal contexts.
