The fifth of the Art of Murder mystery series, this book is set primarily in Canada's Algonquin Provincial Park. The main character is Kate Corliss, an artist who lives full-time aboard an RV. She makes friends with biochemist Simone, but strange events start happening after Kate helps Simone do biological field work. Kate has to sort out the truth from a maze of the other woman's lies. Joining forces with a park warden (ranger) as he deals with a suspicious outbreak of a new disease in bears, Kate discovers Simone is far from a friend--in fact, she's a killer. In a plot full of suspense and tension, Kate barely avoids becoming Simone's next victim. It's a close call. The book is a mystery with characteristics of a thriller, modified by Kate's strong connection to nature and her non-human fellow inhabitants of planet Earth.
