Southeast China has long been a stronghold of Buddhism, yet it has received little scholarly focus. Brian Nichols' groundbreaking work centers on a significant Buddhist monastery in Quanzhou, blending ethnographic detail with insightful analysis to explore religion in post-Mao China.
