More about the book

Welcome to the brutal and elite world of Basgiath War College, where everyone has an agenda, and every night could be your last . . . Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general - also known as her tough-as-talons mother - has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders . But when you're smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away . . . because dragons don't bond to 'fragile' humans. They incinerate them. [payot.ch]

At first I was like "Wow another typical tiny, weak and independent girl falls in love with the big strong bad guy", but I couldn't put it down after reaching the 100 pages mark. There are a lot of things that I find cringe or cliche, like the unrealistic "I'm to weak for a sword but I'm super fast with daggers" or people keeping swords strapped to their backs, but I can look past that and into the strong bonds and friendships in the story.
