More about the book
In 1901, Stefan and Helga Schmidt, along with their infant daughter Christina and Stefan's mother Olga, immigrated to Northwest Nebraska from Germany. The journey was arduous and fraught with anxiety as Stefan worried about their safety at sea, his family's health, and the costs involved. He feared they might not be accepted as Americans, leading him to deny their German heritage. Stefan aspired to establish a horse ranch on land unattainable in Germany, dreaming of vast opportunities and challenges they could not foresee. Their American neighbors surprised them in unexpected ways. Helga also held dreams and prayed for their realization. However, Olga's fears about their new life loomed large. The impact of wars in Europe and the harsh realities of their new land posed additional threats. Would the difficulties overwhelm them? What blessings might they receive, and what secrets lurked in the shadows of their lives? What evils awaited them? Clare Hulseman McCullah, raised in Chadron, Nebraska, graduated from the University of the Ozarks in Arkansas. An author and retired social worker, she has served in various church roles and resides in Fayetteville, Arkansas, with her husband Gary. They have three sons and five grandsons.
