Exactly twenty-five years ago, Manon Uphoff made her debut with the short story collection "Begeerte." The collection burst onto the Dutch literary scene, earning three prestigious awards: the AKO Literature Prize, the Anton Wachter Prize, and the ECI Prize; the title story was honored with the Rabobank Lenteprijs for literature. The stories are like secret rooms, where one peeks through the keyhole to witness what is not meant for their eyes. Desire manifests as longing, but also as passion, aggression, drive, and will. All characters are governed by the lust and pain of their desires. In a special afterword, Uphoff reveals how each story serves as a seed from which her later works have grown.
