More about the book

Orphan Fly Pie is one of London's street children. He spends his days scavenging on rubbish tips in return for shelter provided by Mother Shelly, but he dreams of one day owning his own bakery. One day Fly and his friend Sham find a wounded gunman who was kidnapped a baby. Fly goes in search of his sister Jane to nurse the gunman but the man dies before they return. The three children then embark on a perilous plan to return the baby to its parents and claim a hoped-for reward. But on the children's trail are Mother Shelly's thugs, the gunman's gang, the police and, most frightening of all, the death squads.
