The Sanguine Scot was filled with anger, the Company expressed compassion, and the Dandy reacted with dismay. The Dandy, despite his name, was not vain; he simply valued cleanliness and order. The Head Stockman, absent at the time, might have had much to say about the benefits of having a woman around. Meanwhile, the Wag maintained his usual cheerful demeanor, contributing to the lively atmosphere despite the news.
