More about the book

In March 2014, while traveling to teach a yoga retreat, Rachel Brathen collapses at an airport due to severe stomach pain and is rushed to a hospital in Bonaire, where she undergoes surgery. Upon waking, she finds her boyfriend in tears beside her, and soon learns that her best friend, Andrea, has died in a car accident. Despite their contrasting appearances, Rachel and Andrea shared a deep bond, often referred to as gemelas, or twins. In the three years following Andrea's death, Rachel navigates what appears to be a joyful period in her life—engaged to the love of her life and enjoying a successful career—while grappling with profound grief and unresolved childhood trauma. The weight of her sadness becomes overwhelming. When Rachel becomes pregnant, she sees this as a chance for healing and personal rebirth. Through this transformative journey, she reflects on her experiences, sharing insights about life, death, love, fear, motherhood, and the resilience required to face adversity while embracing the practice of loving deeply and letting go.
