This book examines the women of medieval Cyprus and their roles in society, beginning with the period of the Third Crusade. Wives, mistresses and daughters under the Frankish kings are discussed from a literary and historical perspective, set within the context of the political history of the period. One of the chapters is devoted to Caterina Cornaro, wife of James II, and a member of one of the leading and most wealthy families in Venice who also had a residence, family ties and ambitions in Cyprus.
