Aristophanes, often hailed as the Father of Comedy, left behind eleven intact plays that vividly capture the essence of ancient Athenian life. Born between 456 and 446 BC, he faced challenges as an adopted citizen of Athens. His sharp wit and satirical prowess earned him both admiration and fear, notably influencing the trial of Socrates through his play The Clouds. Criticized for his works, he retaliated by lampooning figures like Cleon in subsequent plays. His surviving texts are invaluable, representing the sole remnants of Ancient Greek comedy.
